Full-size GMC Sierra pickups are beloved by truck enthusiasts because of their versatility, hard-working power, and upscale features. The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 takes excellence to a new level, with elevated modern technology, performance-driven powertrains, and towing and payload capabilities that can tackle any task.

Versatile, Hard-Working Powertrains

The Sierra 1500 lets drivers customize the pickup’s powertrain to meet its intended purpose, from efficient operation to maximum power. The standard powerplant is the TurboMax engine, which is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and delivers 310 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds of torque to a 2WD or 4WD drivetrain. It does so while maintaining great estimated fuel efficiency, getting 18 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway.

Other available powertrains include a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 that creates 383 foot-pounds of torque and a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 that delivers 460 foot-pounds of torque. Finally, there’s an available 305-horsepower 3.0-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine that generates 495 foot-pounds of torque. The latter three engines are paired with a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive and tow/haul mode.

Excellent Payload Hauling and Towing Capability

At heart, trucks are built to work hard and tackle tough tasks, and the Sierra 1500 does both thanks to its impressive payload and towing capacity. In the popular crew cab configuration, the Sierra 1500 can transport up to six adults comfortably, and its 6.5-foot cargo box offers up to 71.7 cubic feet of cargo volume and a maximum payload capacity of 2,200 pounds when properly equipped.

When the payload outweighs the Sierra 1500’s onboard capacity, the half-ton pickup can still tackle the task with up to 13,300 pounds of towing capacity. The Sierra 1500 also comes with tow-friendly standard features like a standard trailering system with hitch guidance and a built-in hitch. Other available trailering features can simplify the task of towing, like outside power-adjustable trailering mirrors, an in-vehicle trailering app, and a hitch view camera.

Elevated Safety and Infotainment Tech

The technology in the Sierra 1500 helps drivers and their passengers remain safe and connected wherever adventure leads. It has standard safety features, including the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, six airbags, automatic emergency braking, an HD rear vision camera, lane keep assist, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, front pedestrian braking, and a following distance indicator.

The standard infotainment and connectivity features in the Sierra 1500 include a 6-speaker sound system, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, a 3.5-inch driver information center, the GMC Premium Infotainment System with a 7-inch color touchscreen with Google integration, Bluetooth streaming, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
